I recently had the opportunity to create a look on the host of the North American Trendvision Awards 2013. I wanted to create something beautiful, with a classic shape, yet disrupted. The blend of opposites adds interest to the look. A very easy way to create interest in a look when you don’t have a lot of time to execute a full on updo, is rope braiding.
I started by using the Sebastian Professional Microcrimper to create a matte finish. I alternated crimp and straight throughout the head for a combination of textures. I then sectioned a horseshoe shape from recession to recession dropping just below the crown. The next section was from top of the ear to top of the ear. In the nape area I created a rope braid. Starting at the temple I did a french style (on the scalp) rope braid, and the repeated on the other side. Moving on to the top section, I back brushed starting at the back to create a lot of texture and volume. I then smoothed the surface, twisted, and pinned. Using the three rope braids in the back, I created texture throughout the nape.
This look, once prepped, only takes 10 minutes to create. Try it. You’ll love it.
